The Kabbalah (also Cabala, Kabala, Qabalah) is system of thought which was originally included in Jewish theosophy, philosophy, science, magic and mysticism. 'Kabbalah' is Hebrew for "that which is received" and refers to a secret oral tradition of teaching which extends from teacher to pupil.

A system by which hidden truths and meanings are discovered within words. Each letter of an alphabet corresponds to a number. Numerical values of words are totaled up and then these words are said to correspond with other words sharing the same numerical value.

In Kabbalism this is a mystic way of using words in the Bible to interpret that book. Notarikon utilizes the procedure of devising new words from combinations of the first and last letters of special words. This resembles two other different methods of gaining enlightenment called gematria and temurah.

The Library of Hermetic Philosophy in Amsterdam  
The Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica is a private library located in the heart of Amsterdam. It was founded by Amsterdam businessman Joost R. Ritman, who decided to make his collections part of the public domain in 1984. The library is not linked to any public institution or library. The library with its collections of books and manuscripts and its exhibition rooms are located on Bloemstraat 13-19, Amsterdam, and is freely accessible to the public.
